FileMaker Version
Description

1994: Independent Consultant

2
My first big project. I designed an integrated Contact Tracking/Customer Tracking/Invoicing/Inventory database for consultants and small business professionals. The Data Entry screen from the Contact Tracking Module and the Data Entry and Invoice screens from the Invoicing Module are part of a much larger suite. This database needs a significant overhaul to take advantage of the vast improvements in the current version of FileMaker Pro.
1998: Retirement Community
4
A simple database which generates a yearbook/directory of all residents. The layouts are rudimentary, but functional. The Data Entry Page is where each resident's information is entered; the Yearbook Page is the final printed result. N.B. I also did (and still do) all of the portrait photography.
1999: Application Service Provider
4
I designed databases for a startup company which replicated the federal government's byzantine printing procurement process. Forms generated included the SF1, 2511, and a proprietary estimating package tailored to individual printing programs used by various agencies.
2000: Church
5
Set of databases designed to track Families, People, Activities, and Collections. Includes various report functions and the ability to manually select sets while in list view, and to save sets. Although a small project, it's one of my favorites because of its elegance and simplicity.
2002: Framing Store Chain
5.5
A comprehensive, networked solution for calculating the cost of art framing, tracking invoices, managing inventory, and acting as a virtual cash register. This is the first database I've designed for a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768, allowing much more data to be diplayed on the screen. Three third-party plug-ins were used to achieve true data entry dialogs, multi-key date relationships, and script triggering. Version 1 went online in five retail stores in July 2002.
1999-2005: Specialty Travel Office
5, 7
Set of databases designed to track worldwide seasonal travel tours for representatives of U.S. educational institutions. Includes an Hotels module to keep track of accommodations. Recently rebuilt in FileMaker 7 and vastly the better for it.
2006-2008: Specialty Magazine
5, 8
Complete Customer and Subscription database, with automatic renewal and mailing list generation, statistical sales reporting. Additional database designed to manage conventions and symposia. Complete with registration, sub-events, sponsors, exhibitors, and various other elements. Rebuilt in FileMaker Pro 8. Behold the difference! Screenshot 1 Screenshot 2
2007-2008: Tech research company
9
A system for monitoring various tech companies.
2008: RV Park
9
A system for managing occupants and lot reservations in an RV park.
2006-2008: Mayo Clinic
8, 9
My magnum opus. Tentatively named "CRITR", this solution is an ongoing work in progress as it is being expanded to accommodate various cancer research groups. CRITR allows querying, reporting, and tracking of both clinical and research data for the Hematologic Malignancies Program at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. It incorporates many advanced FileMaker techniques, including multple delimited script parameters, complex querying, hidden tab panels, flexible hierarchies, and a strong emphasis on data-driven elements. One of the most interesting challenges of the project was the need to replicate the look and feel of a tissue microarray in the user interface. The result surpassed expectations. The underlying data and entry processes are so complex that the user interface is built for a minimum screen resolution of 1680x1050.
